Back From My Unannounced Blog Leave - Part 3

Chestene as Dora ~ 3rd Birthday Invite

Organizing a Kiddie Party

My sister and I love organizing children’s parties. I think it was mostly because we enjoyed our own birthday parties when we were younger. Mom and Dad threw those parties for us, and we just enjoyed whatever it is that they prepared for us every year.

Parties are generic, back then - just the usual home-cooked food, balloons, games, cake and clowns. But today it has evolved into something more imaginative, exciting, creative and of course - expensive, to say the least.

There are a lot of entertainment and extras available now that can be incorporated in a children
s party: inflatable rides and slides, carnival shows (magic, mime, stilt walkers, jugglers, fire eaters (oh, yeah!), animal show/petting zoo, etc.), game booths, giant cakes, mascots, food carts and balloon sculptures, to name a few.

I have observed that children’s parties are well-celebrated here in the Philippines. In fact, the rich and some celebrities spend up to a million pesos for their kids’ parties and give out real Dalmatian dogs as party giveaways.

Well, even if I had the money, I don’t think I’d go that far. I love the challenge of having to create something nice with limited resources and a wild imagination (Hmm. Okay, maybe I'll splurge a bit when I get that kind of money ;-).

Back to the little lady’s 7th Rockstar Birthday Party, I thought I’d give you a glimpse of her previous birthdays first before I blog more about the latest.

The photo above is her 3rd birthday invite as Dora the Explorer (It's originally in the form of a PowerPoint presentation). Below is her 4th Birthday invite where I made her look like all the princesses. I did this during my early Photoshop days.

More to come... In the meantime, do share your thoughts. :)

Back From My Unannounced Blog Leave - Part 2

Chestene's Rockstar Invite

Obviously, I could not contain the excitement over what transpired last Saturday. I so need to blog the part 2 right away, or else I will forget some details.

Oh, my. I still can't believe that the
little lady has already reached the first step towards ladyhood. But before I wander further in my maternal sentimental journey, I'll share with you the activities I did in the preparation stage:

1. Choosing a theme
2. Choosing the date and venue
3. Designing and sending out invites
4. The guest list
5. Ordering the cake
6. Booking a host
7. Deciding on the program and kind of party entertainment
8. Decorating the venue
7. Preparing the loot bags
8. Designing and printing of backdrop
9. Putting together the celebrant's outfit
10. Buying candies and toys for the "pabitin" and game prizes
11. Burning CDs for party music

This is quite a long list and I'm sure I missed a thing or two here. This normally needs at least 2 months preparation, but I did it in less than a month due to other work, school and blog-related activities. Good thing my mom and sister are always within reach. We usually do some creative brainstorming whenever there's a party coming up, and delight in the ideas that we think of no matter how much work they entail.

Choosing a Party Theme, Date and Venue

The little lady chose the rockstar theme, so I made her the concert ticket invite. I used again the scrapbook elements from Pimp Your Scrapbook to create the rockstar effect. This was supposed to be my entry for last Saturday's Scrapbook Saturday, but I was too tired to post. Can I just antedate this, Dette? ;-P

We're lucky because her actual birth anniversary, August 23, fell on a Saturday so we reserved it right away with our chosen venue. We wanted a place with a cozy ambiance, where guests can also enjoy the food to their hearts' content so we chose the merienda (afternoon snack) eat-all-you-can buffet.

Everything seemed to be in place since the party's inception. Well, is it?
(To be continued...)

Back From My Unannounced Blog Leave - Part 1

Huh?

Oh yeah, I was on blog leave for like more than a week. I did not announce and make a fuss out of it because I know that:

1. You would not notice
or
2. If you did, I know you would understand. *hugsss* = )

Anyways, I did an awful lot the past week and I can't wait to spill each and every detail. In fact, I have so much to tell, that I don't even know where to start!

The big hint is that the little lady celebrated her 7th Rockstar birthday party last Saturday where she played Hannah Montana for a day. I've been running around getting things for her party, sending out invites, designing the backdrop and tags, organizing loot bags and game prizes, coordinating with the suppliers, losing sleep and losing more sleep over the whole putting-it-all-together thing.

It has always been this way ever since her 1st birthday. I never seem to get things done way in advance. Oh well, with me being a typical INTP, nothing is ever final because great ideas keep popping up in my head until the very last minute.

Hah. Let me catch my breath first before I draft this post's part 2. In the meantime, please stay tuned. ;-)
